Once home to Wales’ most celebrated poet, the Boathouse overlooks the Taf Estuary and offers visitors an intimate look at Dylan Thomas’s life, work, and the landscape that inspired him.
Perched on a wooded cliffside in Laugharne, the Dylan Thomas Boathouse is one of the most iconic literary landmarks in Wales. It was here that Thomas lived with his family during the last four years of his life, writing some of his most famous works, including parts of Under Milk Wood.
Today, the Boathouse is a museum and memorial to his life and legacy. Visitors can explore the family rooms, view memorabilia and letters, and listen to recordings of his poetry. Just a short walk away is his writing shed – carefully preserved to reflect how it would have looked when Thomas worked in it.
The views over the Taf Estuary are spectacular, and the on-site tearoom and bookshop offer a chance to relax and soak in the surroundings. For literature lovers and curious travellers alike, it’s an unmissable spot in West Wales.
